Fall 2013 Issue of Journal of Child Nutrition & Management Now Available

October 30, 2013 – If you’re looking for the latest in child nutrition research, look no further – the latest issue of The Journal of Child Nutrition & Management has reached the digital stands and is available for you to review.

Each issue of this exclusively digital publication features several research articles on topics critical to the successful operation of school meal programs. For Fall 2013, Research in Action topics include:

  • A look at the BackPack program’s effect on hunger and behavior of elementary school students;
  • A case study from Sweden on the nutrient content of school lunches;
  • Creating a sustainable model for establishing gardens in schools and childcare centers;
  • Examining the relationship between nutritional knowledge and cafeteria purchases in middle-school students;
  • Consumption of produce in middle-schoolers after the implementation of a school district wellness policy;

Have You Voted Yet in SNA’s Annual Election?

October 29, 2013 – Have you voted in SNA’s Annual Election yet? Don’t miss your chance to have your voice heard! The “polls” will only be open until November 15, 2013. To cast your vote, log on to the SNA website at www.schoolnutrition.org/snaelection to review the biographies of this year’s 25 candidates.

To get to know this year’s nominees for vice president, watch the videos with each candidate or take a look at their interviews that appeared in the October issue of School Nutrition. Once elected, this person begins a three-year cycle that includes the positions of president-elect and president; this helps maintain the continuity of SNA leadership. This year’s candidates are Becky Domokos-Bays, PhD, RD, SNS, director of school nutrition programs, Alexandria City (Va.) Public Schools, and Craig Weidel, SNS, area supervisor, Mesa (Ariz.) Public Schools.

And remember, while all members are eligible to vote* for the Vice President, Member Services Committee Chair and Nutrition Committee Chair, only members in designated regions and member sections may vote for the other positions. The slate of candidates that you are eligible to vote for is based on your SNA region and your membership section. *Your SNA membership must have been valid and current as of May 31, 2013.

To cast your vote, go to www.schoolnutrition.org/snaelection and click on “Vote Now.” You will be prompted to enter your SNA username and password. Once you have logged in, you will be directed to the voting site where you will then vote. Prompts will guide you through the online voting process, but to save time, please make all of your selections in advance. The “polls” will be open from to November 15, 2013.
