Congratulations to the 2014 SNF Scholarship Recipients!

June 6, 2014 - The School Nutrition Association (SNA) would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2014 School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) scholarships.

Schwan’s Foodservice Scholarship: 
Scholarships, funded by a generous annual donation by Schwan’s Food Service, Inc, of up to $2,500 each are awarded each year to SNA members pursuing degrees in a school nutrition related fields. This marks thirty years of Schwan’s Scholarships, 1984 – 2014, and a total of $1.5 million in support of SNA members and their continued education. The 2014 recipients are:

SNF Professional Growth Scholarship:
Scholarships of up to $2,500 each are awarded each year to SNA members pursuing degrees in a school nutrition related fields. The 2014 recipients are:

  • Jeffrey Torney, SNS, Florida

Sandi Brooker Award: 
The Sandi Brooker Scholarship ensures that Sandi’s positive impact on so many people is continued by helping others achieve the dream of continued education. Two scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded each year to SNA members pursuing degrees in a school nutrition related fields. The 2014recipients are:

  • Catherine Donovan, SNS, Massachusetts
  • Doreen Iovanna, Massachusetts

Nancy Curry Award: 
One scholarship of $500 is awarded each year to SNA members pursuing a degree in a school nutrition related field. The 2014 recipient is:

  • Danielle Collins, SNS, New Hampshire

ANC First Timers Scholarship: 
Funded by PepsiCo, the ANC First-Timer Scholarship gives SNA members from the employee and manager categories who have never attended SNA’s Annual National Conference (ANC) the opportunity to take advantage of the valuable educational and professional development opportunities to advance their careers at this event.

Kathleen Stitt Award: 
The Kathleen Stitt Award is presented to a graduate student or faculty member participating in the Child Nutrition Showcase at SNA's Annual National Conference (ANC). This $500 award is given to help defray travel expenses incurred to attend ANC. The 2014 recipient is:

  • Stephanie Smith, Colorado

Josephine Martin National Policy Fellow: 
Every year, the SNF gives one current SNA member from the employee or manager category the opportunity to attend SNA's annual Legislative Action Conference (LAC) as the Josephine Martin National Policy Fellow, with all travel expenses paid. The 2014 recipient is:

  • Janet Dunmyer, Indiana

Winston Equipment Grant: 
Through this grant, Winston Industries awards equipment to one school district needing improvement of its school meal kitchen facilities. The 2014 recipient is:

  • Mary Jo Lange, SNS, Red Lake School District #38, Minnesota

Baxter Equipment for Education Award: 
The Baxter Equipment for Education Grant will award equipment to a school district in need of improving its school meal kitchen facilities through a competitive grant process. The 2014 recipient will be announced at ANC.

SNF scholarships are only open to current SNA members. All applications must be submitted online. Scholarships will open again in late 2014/early 2015. For more information, please visitwww.schoolnutrition.org/scholarships.
