2007-08 NSLW/NSBW Preview
April 2007

School Foodservice & Nutrition never has brought you a promotional preview like this before! The April issue traditionally announces themes and other details for National School Lunch Week (NSLW) and National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) promotions, and this year’s promotions go above and beyond. In addition, SF&N serves up a smorgasbord of photos and reviews of the 2006 NSLW celebrations that took place nationwide--as well as an inside look at the Child Nutrition Industry Conference.

You and your student customers sure loved Vote for School Lunch last fall. More than 90% of Association members participating in the event rated the months-long, interactive 2006 NSLW campaign as “good or excellent.” And kids across the United States pushed the number of hits at the official NSLW website all the way to nearly 5 million! In the end, hundreds of thousands of official votes were counted. Read all about it in “A Vote of Confidence.”

To build on the momentum of last year’s campaign, Vote for School Lunch returns for NSLW 2007 with five new candidates--and a contest for students to design and select some of the candidates that will be vying for votes in 2008. NSLW occurs October 15-19, 2007, but specific related events begin much earlier. Learn more by reading “Vote for School Lunch.”

Next, prepare for an unprecedented NSBW, scheduled for March 3-7, 2008. Using the theme “School Breakfast: Fuel Your Imagination” and new, cutting-edge features like an interactive website, a virtual rocket blastoff and a contest that can capture kids’ interest as early as November, you will have more magic up your sleeve than Willy Wonka--and a far more nutritious agenda!

As a bonus, the special report “Can We Talk?” explores the happenings of the Child Nutrition Industry Conference (CNIC). Some 400 participants of this annual SNA meeting discussed the challenges and opportunities of working to feed children healthy and delicious school meals. This was all to the good, asserted the event’s Opening General Session Speaker Scott Ginsberg, who advocated the value of networking for its consequence of creating connections, “one conversation at a time.” Whether you’re an Industry member or a school nutrition professional interacting directly with student customers, SF&N brings you information you need to serve--and promote--healthy school meals!
