Chefs in Schools: Increasing Participation and Gaining Renewed Excitement around your School Meal Program

The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) in partnership with the National Dairy Council will be offering a FREE webinar on Wednesday, December 14th from 2:00-3:15 pm EST entitled: " Chefs in Schools: Increasing Participation and Gaining Renewed Excitement around your School Meal Program."

In this webinar, a Food Service Director/Area Manager and a chef will discuss how to effectively use a chef to enhance your child nutrition (CN) program in the areas of recipe/menu development; food education; culinary skills; and how to successfully market your CN program to stakeholders (students, parents, school administrators, and the community.) The Area Manager will discuss how his school district identified chef(s) to work with, how the chef was educated about the parameters of school foodservice, how the chef’s involvement was marketed to students, and the outcomes of the program. The chef will discuss the following: his motivation/interest to work with schools, how a chef can make contact with a school district, best practices for marketing skill set to schools to achieve a meaningful experience for all involved, and what knowledge a chef should have before working with a school district.

Objectives:

The learning objectives of this webinar are:

  • Participants will learn the necessary steps to follow to bring a chef into a school
  • Participants will learn how to manage expectations between the director, food service staff and the chef
  • Participants will gain an understanding of how to effectively utilize a chef’s expertise to enhance a child nutrition program in the areas of recipe/menu development; food education; culinary skills; and marketing
  • Participants will learn how Fuel Up To Play 60 (FUTP60) and other resources can provide a framework for reaching out to students and engaging them around the food they eat
