Join USDA's Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Deputy Under Secretary Dr. Janey Thornton for a Special Webinar on
Providing Meals to Needy Children During an H1N1-Related School Dismissal
The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) in partnership with USDA will be offering this special webinar on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. This is not being offered on Wednesday as a “Wednesday Webinar”. Attendance for this event is limited. Due to anticipated demand, SNF encourages participants to arrange for viewings in a group setting when possible. Questions and Answers specific to meal service will be addressed during the event and posted following the webinar. Resource information will be provided that will direct participants to additional information for other types of questions related to H1N1. This webinar will address information contained in two USDA Policy Memos released in July 2009 outlining how school and community organizations may continue to provide reimbursable meals to low-income children during potential school dismissals. Meals served during these dismissals may be claimed through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) or the National School Lunch Program's Seamless Summer Option (SSO). Experts from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Department of Education also will share critical updates and resources on H1N1 influenza preparedness and recommendations for the education community.
