Get Your Course SNA Approved SNA offers Continuing Education Unit (CEU), Key Area Hour, and Core Course approval guidelines for school nutrition education and training programs. SNA approval of education and training programs allows training providers to help SNA members across the country satisfy the initial requirements for the Certificate in School Nutrition Program, Certificate Program maintenance and SNS Credentialing.Guidelines for Core CoursesAll Core Courses must be approved by SNA. Core Courses are workshops, seminars or online courses that meet objectives and goals which help to achieve best practices. Core Courses: Must be at least 8 hours of instructional time (does not include registration time or breaks) Can be broken down into modules (i.e. two 4 hour sessions = 8 hours or four 2 hour sessions = 8 hours). Must fall into one of the following categories: Nutrition Education Food Safety & Sanitation A minimum of three learning objectives must be displayed at the beginning of the program presentation. Handouts must be informational pieces directly related to the approved program. Programs must be delivered without any type of promotional marketing or sale of products and/or services.Core Course Approval Process Requests for core course approval must be submitted to SNA for review 6-8 weeks prior to offering the program. Once a core course or program is approved, SNA will send notification and a certificate template via email. Each program participant must receive a certificate of completion. If the program content changes by more than 25%, then the provider must re-apply for program approval.Core Course approval will be good for 5 years from the date of approval and SNA will maintain these courses in its database. Key Area ProgramKey Area Hours are earned by SNA members for participating in programs like workshops, conferences, online courses, webinars, or home study courses that are directly related to the Keys to Excellence. Key Area Programs: Must be at least 2 hours of instructional time (not including registration time or breaks) Can be broken down into modules and bundled (i.e. two 60 minute sessions = 2 hours or three 60 minute sessions = 3 hours). Must fall under one of the following areas of the standards of practice in the Keys to Excellence: Key Area 1 – Operations Key Area 2 – Nutrition, Nutrition Education and Physical Activity Key Area 3 – Administration Key Area 4 – Marketing and Communications Offering Key Area Programs in More than One State, Nationally, or Annual Conference SNA state affiliates, third party associations, districts, local chapters or individuals offering Key Area Programs in more than one state must receive approval from SNA Headquarters - Download the Key Area Program Approval Form to get your training approved. Offering Key Area Programs within a State Third party associations, districts, local chapters or individuals offering Key Area programs within a state must receive approval from SNA State Affiliate. Note that exhibits, tours, food shows and tradeshows qualify for 1 CEU only. CEUs: Must be at least 1 hour of instructional time (does not include registration time or breaks) Can be broken down into modules and bundled (i.e. four 15 minute sessions or two 30 minute sessions) Offering CEU Programs in More than One State,Nationally, or Annual Conference SNA state affiliates, third party associations, districts, local chapters or individuals offering CEUs in more than one state must receive approval from SNA Headquarters - Download the CEU Program Approval - Form (Word) Offering CEU Programs within a State Third party associations or individuals offering CEUs within a state must receive approval from SNA State Affiliate.
