The Chopped episode was absolutely wonderful. By the end of the episode there wasn't a dry eye at our table. Imagine our delight when the chefs stopped by the viewing area and we were able to meet them in person! There passion was contagious.
Our team was so inspired by this experience that we planned a "U-46 Chopped" as a way to start off the school year with our cafeteria cooks. We arranged a day devoted to just the cooks, and after talking about the upcoming school year and the new regulations, we surprised them with the "Chopped" challenge. They were amazing! Everyone was charged up for the new year!
Our experience is far from over tho, as our Food and Nutrition Department is now teaming up with the Consumer Science Department and a "Junior Chopped" is being planned for the eight middle schools in our district! Students in the foods classes are studying MyPlate and as a culminating event, our food service professionals will be teaming up with the students for a distric-wide competition. Thank you for planting the seed!
