February 24, 2010 - The School Nutrition Association (SNA) supports the Obama Administration’s proposals on Child Nutrition Reauthorization. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack presented the Administration’s proposals on February 23, 2010 at a National Press Club Luncheon. His speech highlighted the Obama Administration’s intentions to reauthorize the Child Nutrition Act in an effort to reduce hunger, and improve the health and nutrition of children in the United States.
SNA is delighted by Secretary Vilsack’s goals to reduce childhood obesity and food insecurity in the United States while providing more healthy choices to children. SNA is in agreement that promoting physical education and nutrition education in schools is vital. School nutrition professionals are working everyday to encourage the availability of healthier options for students, and many school districts across the nation have been able to implement nutrition education programs to benefit their student population.
SNA is committed to supporting the efforts of the Obama Administration and First Lady Michelle Obama (Let’s Move! Campaign) and promotes a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act to encourage improved health and nutrition of US children.
