September 12, 2013 – What food or traditions do you love most about your part of the USA? Southern black-eyed peas? Tamales from the Southwest? Fresh fish from New England? National School Lunch Week (NSLW) 2013 is right around the corner, and this year’s theme, “School Lunch Across the USA” celebrates regional cuisine from all over the country!
If you need ideas for what to serve, visit www.schoolnutrition.org/nslw. You’ll find school foodservice recipes courtesy of SNA members from across the country. Whether you choose to feature different regions, or focus on your own local flavors, you’ll be sure to find something your students will love.
You can also download free, printable activity sheets and handouts for students – and parents too. And be sure to enter the NSLW sweepstakes – tell us how you plan to celebrate and you could win 720 NSLW stickers to give away to your students!
Last but not least – visit SNA’s Emporium website to shop online for NSLW merchandise. You can buy inexpensive prizes and giveaways for your students like pencils, buttons, temporary tattoos, and more.
NSLW 2013 begins October 14. Organizing a promotion in honor of NSLW can not only help you increase participation, but it also helps you to spread the word to parents and school staff about your healthy options. Start planning your NSLW celebration today with free resources from SNA!
