Time is ticking down to the start of ANC, and SNA is busy putting the last-minute touches on this year’s ANC General Sessions, the central conference event that brings all conference attendees together at the end of the day to connect, celebrate and be inspired. Only at the school nutrition event of the year can you find such a moving and exciting mix of keynote speakers.
Here’s a sneak peek into the highlights of the ANC 2011 General Sessions:

The Opening General Session on Sunday, July 10th, will be an amazing start to what will be an amazing conference. After the annual Parade of States, you will take a look back on the highlights and successes of an eventful year in school nutrition. You will also help recognize those talented and deserving individuals who have won the following awards: President's Awards of ExcellenceMembership Growth AwardsLouise Sublette Award of ExcellenceHeart of the Program AwardDirector of the Year AwardIndustry Member of the Year Award To top it all off, Keynote Speaker Janine Driver will help you understand what you’re saying with your body language so that you can project the best image of you every day, whether in the workplace or in the community.
The Second General Session on Tuesday, July 12th, will bring you up to speed on the latest in school nutrition legislation and highlight all the great educational programs available from the School Nutrition Foundation. SNA Past President and current USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Dr. Janey Thornton, SNS, will be on hand to provide an update on the HealthierUS School Challenge and introduce a special guest: Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan, who will discuss the USDA’s work on the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and the efforts to finalize the new meal patterns.
Tuesday’s session is also your chance to see if you can cheer the loudest when the 2011 District of the Year is revealed. And finally, no stranger to cheers, Olympic Gold Medalist and Motivational Speaker Dominique Dawes will take the ANC stage to share her inspiring story and message for helping America’s youth achieve their dreams. Just wait until you share with your student customers next school year that you heard from a gold-medal-winning Olympian!
The Closing General Session on Wednesday, July 13th, will wind down the Nashville experience in true SNA style and will give you a glimpse into the ongoing efforts of the Global Child Nutrition Foundation to fight child hunger in the U.S. and around the world. This session also officially marks the start of another year for the Association with the installation of the new members of the SNA Board of Directors. Outgoing SNA President Nancy Rice, SNS, will share her thoughts on SNA’s accomplishments from the past year, while incoming SNA President Helen Phillips, SNS, will discuss her plans for SNA in the year ahead.
Then, get ready to be wowed by the work and the words of Acclaimed Chef, Conservationist and Keynote Speaker Barton Seaver, whose goal is to restore our relationship with the ocean, the land and with each other through dinner. As the author of the new book, For Cod and Country, Seaver will share his compelling experiences as a chef and sustainability advocate.
