The Opening General Session on Sunday, July 11th, is sure to start your conference experience on a high note. Leading off is the Parade of States and the Year in Review, which highlights a year’s worth of SNA’s memorable changes and BIG accomplishments. Next, attendees will cheer on the winners of the President’s Award of Excellence, Louise Sublette Award of Excellence, Heart of the Program Award, Outstanding Director of the Year Award and Individual Industry Member of Year Award. Finally, capping off the session is keynote speaker, Dr. Rovenia Brock. “Dr. Ro” is a leading nutrition coach and health journalist who is renowned for her easy-to-apply diet and fitness tips. Dr. Ro will also be holding a book signing after the General Session of her book, Dr. Ro’s Ten Secrets to Livin’ Healthy.
The Second General Session on Tuesday, July 13th, is all about celebrating the BIG value you get in return for your SNA membership. Come hear more about exciting opportunities from the School Nutrition Foundation and learn what's happening in Congress on Child Nutrition Reauthorization and, of course, you won’t want to miss applauding the achievements of the 2010 District of the Year, which will be revealed during the session. Also, SNA Past President and current USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Dr. Janey Thornton, SNS, will be making a special appearance. Dr. Thornton will be sharing more about how the HealthierUS School Challenge, how it ties in to First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign and how your school nutrition program can benefit. Ellie Krieger, the best-selling cookbook author and star of the Food Network's hit show, "Healthy Appetite," is the day's highly-anticipated keynote speaker. A book signing will take place in the Emporium following General Session.
The Closing General Session promises to be as engaging as the previous two sessions, so be sure to get a seat on Wednesday, July 14th. Outgoing SNA President Dora Rivas, RD, SNS, will share insight into what she’s learned from her state visits during her time as president, while incoming SNA President Nancy Rice, SNS, will detail the Association’s plans for the year ahead. This session also marks the beginning of a new chapter in Association history with the installation of the 2010-11 Board of Directors. Then, get ready to be inspired by keynote speaker Marion Luna Brem. As the author of The 7 Greatest Truths about Successful Women and Women Make the Best Salesmen, Brem will share her passion for empowering others to succeed. A book signing will take place in the Emporium following General Session.
