February 12, 2014 – Interested in reading about the experiences and observations of other school nutrition operators? Be sure to check out The Journal of Child Nutrition & Management, SNA’s peer-reviewed research journal published twice a year. The exclusively digital publication features research articles on topics critical to the successful operation of school meal programs.
One of the articles from the Fall 2013 issue, “Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables in Middle School Students Following the Implementation of a School District Wellness Policy” by Kathleen D. Young, MS; Anastasia Snelling, PhD, RD; Maya Maroto, EdD, RD; and Katherine A. Young, MPH, details a study in which a large urban school district implemented a school wellness policy that required schools to increase health education and physical education contact hours for students and to improve the nutritional standards of school meals. The study measured the consumption patterns of fruits and vegetables of middle school students following this implementation.
