January 8, 2014 – With a new year will surely come additional changes in the world of technology, so dive in to the January issue of School Nutrition, SNA’s award-winning flagship publication, which explores the latest technological terms and innovations, as well as provides a behind-the-screens look at the challenges technology providers face in meeting your school nutrition needs. Also included in this issue is an overview of the Beans and Peas Subgroup that identifies some creative ways to menu these items.
Every year, there’s a new technological tool transforming the way school nutrition operators do business. In “Meet My New TBF! (Tech Best Friend),” colleagues across the country share some of their favorites. Bonus Web Content: All the way back in 1964, operators were debating the benefits of providing reimbursable meals to students through automated vending machines! Read about some other “blasts” from school nutrition’s past that may surprise you.
Even without flying cars, some of today’s top tech trends exceed the imaginative dreams of 20th-century science fiction writers. “2014: Welcome to the Future” takes a look at what the future—near and distant—holds.
Even if you consider yourself an early adopter of the latest technology, some of the terms being carelessly exchanged in the media and casual conversation might make your head spin. Don’t miss “Tech Terms You Should Know,” a brief glossary of some of the more common—yet still-mystifying—terms.
As a school nutrition technology user, you know its value in making your job easier and more efficient. But do you know what goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the technology you choose becomes a useful part of your operation? “Bits and Bytes of School Meal Management” showcases what you need to know. Bonus Web Content: Vendors interviewed for this piece offer additional advice about the value of long- and short-term technology planning.
Make a New Year’s resolution to check out some of School Nutrition’s online-exclusive offerings. “Spend a Little Screen Time With School Nutrition” provides additional details about the magazine’s monthly, not-to-be-missed bonus content.
Learn more about beans, peas, lentils and other legumes—a unique and versatile vegetable subgroup with a fair share of protein power in “What’s Your Pulse Rate?” Bonus Web Content: Expand your knowledge of beans with online content pertaining to cooking and soaking them, as well as cooking creatively with them, advice for reducing the unpleasant digestive effects associated with eating them and additional recipes.
